Portfolio Story: Sociolla
In 2014, Sociolla was founded by John Rasjid, Christopher Madia, and Chrisanti Indiana. Now, they are the largest beauty e-commerce platform in Indonesia that aims to give equal access to beauty products to every woman in Indonesia. We sat down with Chrisanti, CMO, and Co-Founder of Sociolla, in their office to discuss Sociolla’s rise to success.
The goal of Sociolla is to create, not only a platform but a beauty ecosystem that connects people in their community (“SoCo”) and learn about beauty from their online media portal (Beauty Journal). The online media portal provides viewers with product information, reviews, tips, news, and so much more.
With 20 million visitors on their platform in 2018 and growing, Sociolla has reached 1 out of 6 Indonesian women as their customers, offering them a wide range of products of skincare, cosmetics, hair care, bath and body, accessories, etc.
When asked about the key element of Sociolla’s success, the differentiating factor is the authenticity of the products and BPOM certification. They guarantee the quality of their products as they source the products from each brand directly; for example, Sociolla is also the sole distributor of Mediheal, a leading sheet mask brand from Korea. This way, their users can shop with an ease of mind.
In 2019, Sociolla will be launching their SoCo app that will act as a one-stop beauty destination: in this app, users can browse products, shop, read reviews, and each member will have a personalized beauty profile. The beauty profile can help users find the perfect products that fit their skin type. It is very helpful for people with troubled skin, especially acne-prone skin to find products that are suitable for them.
Sociolla is also focusing on online-to-offline activation. They have opened one store in Kota Kasablanka and another opening soon in Lippo Mall Puri. These stores will act as an extension of the online store, where all of the products that customers see online will be available to try directly.
